Osteoarthritis is a disease of the joints that causes pain and swelling and reduces the ability of your joints to move. The disease is characterized by a breakdown of cartilage, the tissue that covers the end of your bones in the joints. Without this protective layer, the bones will rub against each other, which will result in permanent damage of the joint. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. Even though it can occur in any joint of your body, the most commonly affected joints are your knees, your hands, your hips or your spine. Older people or overweight people have a higher risk of Osteoarthritis. As there is no single test to diagnose this disease, the Osteoarthritis Check will include a series of physical examinations, diagnostic imaging, and lab tests.
